Our Story

The Makers Hub is aiming to create a makerspace to in Compton to service the 5-6 mile radius surrounding the Hub City.

In 2022, we spent a lot of time in the community, providing tools for, participating in, and hosting events within the greater Compton area that focused on revitalization and beautification.

While we’ve been active in providing tools for community benefit for certain projects, the area residents have been clear in their need for access to tools and equipment in order to empower them to address the issues they face with aging homes, learning trades, and building new businesses.
Based on this feedback, The Makers Hub has elected to open a tool lending library as the first component to our Compton Makerspace.

A tool lending library functions very similarly to a traditional library, but instead of books they provide portable tools for use. The types of tools vary from traditional hand tools, to more advanced power tools, and even things like ladders and gardening equipment.

At the Compton Tool Library, we will be offering a variety of classes centered around home maintenance, repair, and renovation and workshops geared towards learning new trades.
Additionally, we are setting up workshops for our members to use larger, non-portable, tools and equipment on their projects.

Not at all! Our doors (and memberships) are open to anyone regardless of where they reside.

Community Projects

mlk event overview

The Makers Hub was very active in the community in 2022 doing a lot of projects that centered around neighborhood beautification and community revitalization.

This year, we’re not only working on getting the Compton Tool Library open but we’re also working with our Community Partners to continue identifying projects that need our tools and volunteers.

If you have any suggestions for future community projects that you think we should consider, we’d love to hear them!
