The Makers Hub Club at Compton High School empowers students through hands-on workshops in various creative and technical fields.
The club hosts a Maker’s Fair, where students can showcase and sell their creations, applying the skills they’ve learned in a real-world setting. Additionally, the Professional Speaker Series provides students with opportunities to explore alternative career pathways, including trades and other industries, through talks by industry professionals. These initiatives aim to inspire creativity, foster technical proficiency, and broaden career horizons for students.

By participating in the Maker’s Fair, students gain invaluable hands-on experience in both craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.
The Professional Speaker Series at Compton High School offers students valuable opportunities to explore alternative career pathways and work in professional trades. Through engaging talks and interactive sessions, students can gain insights from industry professionals, broaden their career horizons, and connect with pre-apprenticeship programs. Additionally, these events provide professional networking opportunities, helping students build relationships with mentors and potential employers in various fields.
The Makers Hub plans to enhance the Makers Hub Club with new workshops and equipment to expand skills, broaden the variety of creative endeavors, and enroll educators to support entrepreneurship through teaching valuable marketing, team building, and customer service skills. The Professional Speaker Series will increase the number of speakers and the variety of career path alternatives.
Our efforts last year led to the establishment of a woodshop and pre-apprenticeship program with the local Carpenter’s Union. We are planning to explore similar options with other professional trade unions this year!
Schools interested in adopting the Makers Hub Club model can now partner with The Makers Hub! We offer a proven framework that includes workshops, access to advanced tools, and an expanded Professional Speaker Series.
By collaborating with local trades and industry professionals, schools can provide their students with hands-on learning experiences and diverse career pathways. The Makers Hub can bring this successful program to any educational institution, inspiring creativity and entrepreneurship in students.
