Meet: Hugo

Hugo is a Compton resident who came to The Makers Hub looking for a place to learn woodworking. He first heard about the space through his fiancée, who noticed it was located just down the street.

What began as curiosity quickly turned into regular involvement. Hugo now spends time at the Hub not only building his skills but also volunteering with woodworking classes. As a newer woodworker, he values the opportunity to learn from more experienced makers while working hands on with real tools.

Access is key. The Makers Hub provides the equipment needed for projects like cabinet making without the high cost or space requirements that come with owning tools at home. For Hugo, that access makes woodworking possible in a way it was not before.

“I’m grateful that something like this exists, especially in Compton and in Los Angeles, because all the other makerspaces are very expensive, they’re far away”

He is especially grateful to have a makerspace like this in Compton. Many other spaces are expensive, far away, or difficult to reach. Having a fully equipped workshop close to home removes those barriers and makes learning and creating part of everyday life.

For Hugo, The Makers Hub is not just a place to work. It is a place to learn, contribute, and grow alongside others in his community.
