Why Repair?

Repair Clinics (or cafes) play a vital role in creating sustainable communities and empowering
residents. Here’s why repair matters:

  • Environmental Impact: Repairing broken items instead of discarding them reduces
waste, energy and harvesting raw materials, fostering a culture of sustainability.
  • Economic Benefits: Repairing saves residents money that would otherwise be spent on
replacements, keeping wealth within the community. It also supports local repair experts
    and businesses.
  • Community Building: These events strengthen community connections, as people come
together to solve problems and share skills.
  • Skill Empowerment: Individuals gain valuable repair skills, increasing self-reliance and
    confidence.
  • Resilient Economy: A community focused on repair is more self-reliant and resilient,
    with a robust local economy.

Communities rallying around repairing can strengthen local connections, empower individuals with new skills, and create a more self-reliant, resilient economy.

The Circular Economy

The circular economy is an innovative economic model focused on minimizing waste and making the most of resources. Unlike the traditional linear economy, which follows a ‘take, make, dispose’ pattern, the circular economy emphasizes reuse, repair, refurbishment, and recycling of materials and products. This approach is important because it reduces environmental impact by cutting down on waste and conserving natural resources.

For communities, the circular economy brings numerous benefits. It creates local jobs in repair, refurbishment, and recycling sectors, fostering economic growth and resilience. Additionally, it promotes sustainable consumption and production patterns, reducing the community’s carbon footprint and contributing to a healthier environment. By embracing the circular economy, communities can build a sustainable future that prioritizes resource efficiency and environmental stewardship, ensuring long-term prosperity and well-being for all residents.

Our Repair Clinics help contribute to the circular economy by promoting the repair and reuse of items, reducing waste and conserving resources!

The Impact

[When the music box started to work again at the Repair Clinic] I felt like my Dad was right there with me, telling me that it was okay. I felt so close to my Dad and I just started crying because I remember when he first gave it to me. It brought back memories and it felt like he was next to me.

A Very Special Thank You

We wanted to take a moment here to thank Peter Mui, the founder of Fixit Clinic, for helping guide us as we established our own version of the Fixit Clinic concept.
Through Peter, we have been able to develop Repair Clinics for the community we serve and we could not have done it without his help!

Ready to Host Your Own?

Starting or hosting your own repair clinic is a rewarding way to bring your community together and promote sustainability. At a repair clinic, local volunteers with repair skills help attendees fix their broken items, from electronics to clothing. It’s a great opportunity to reduce waste, share knowledge, and build stronger community connections.
