Meet Janelle
Hey, Maker!
My name is Janelle and I am the Marketing and Communications Associate at The Makers Hub. I have a degree in mechanical engineering, but I decided to take a different path after graduation. Instead of going into my field, I moved to a continent I had never been to before instead to volunteer as an English teaching assistant. That lead me to a life of travel and living abroad.
Since then, I’ve lived in Italy, Senegal, South Korea, Haiti, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Canada. As a lifelong student, I’m constantly learning new things and looking for ways to stretch beyond my comfort zone. Living in abroad allows me to immerse myself in a new culture, language, and way of life.
Professionally, I have a diverse background with experience in web design, social media management, project management and digital marketing with a focus on nonprofits.

Following opportunities is one of the main principles in my life and has lead me to some of the most amazing experiences. At The Makers Hub, I’m able to contribute to others being given the same opportunities that helped me get to where I am today. That’s what motivates me to put my all into my work everyday.

Marketing Strategy
Developing and implementing innovative marketing strategies that align with our mission and goals, driving community engagement and awareness. This also includes staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance our marketing and communications efforts.
Writing and Graphic Design
Creating captivating written content for the website, newsletters, press releases, and social media, to effectively communicate our mission, initiatives and impact. Designing visually appealing graphics and materials for promotional campaigns, events, and branding, maintaining a consistent visual identity.
Social Media
Managing the social media channels, curating content, interacting with our online community, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize engagement and reach.

Fun Fact: I was voted Class Clown in high school and firmly believe my sense of humor directly contributes to my ability to build community and be an effective marketing professional.
Outside of The Makers Hub You Can Find Me...
Traveling the World
Whether I’m uprooting my entire life and moving to a new country or taking a week long vacation abroad, travel is one of my top priorities. I’m no stranger from buying a one-way ticket to a city I’ve never been… by myself. Or feeling spontaneous and taking a last minute road trip to Canada with my Mom with no plan (pictured here).
Travel keeps me on my toes and allows me to constantly be learning and making connections with people around the world. My Mom loves travel and so did her Mom. It’s in my blood.
Learning New Languages
I spent three years as an English teacher around the world and have always been fascinated by languages. Through travel, I’ve learned multiple languages and am now (almost) fluent in French, Haitian Creole, and Spanish. I’ve also spoken Italian, Korean, and pieces of Wolof, but have since lost those languages. You know what they say, use it or lose it.
Living abroad made the world my classroom and everyone I met became a teacher… including my students pictured here.
Being a Foodie!
One of my favorite parts of travel (and life) is being able to try all of the food around the world. Whether it’s a Michelin Star restaurant or a hole in the wall Mom and Pop Spot, I’m ready to experience it all.
From street food to luxurious restaurants, being a foodie is one of my favorite things about myself. We have to eat, why not enjoy it? Like this table of food all for me at a restaurant in South Korea (pictured).
