We spent a lot of time in the greater Compton area in 2022, talking to residents and completing community projects.  

The community has been clear about what they need, what is lacking, and what we can do to bridge a gap while we work towards building a makerspace.

Our goal for the first quarter of 2023 is to work on securing the location for the opening of a tool lending library and raise the organization's visibility in the process.

Expand our Tool Inventory

Currently, we have over 450 tools and pieces of equipment in our inventory; it is our goal to expand that count to over 1000 within the year. In order to do this, we are hosting two (2) tool drives in 2023 and reaching out to our amazing supporters. 

By increasing our inventory we are able to expand our class and workshop offerings to the community, providing more opportunities to learn and grow.

Grand Opening

It is our goal to open the doors of the Compton Tool Library in the Summer of 2023. In the interim, you can still catch us being active in the community, providing tools and equipment for the benefit of its residents. 

When our doors open, we start our membership drive and open up enrollment to future classes. 

Host Workshops & Classes

Once the doors to the Compton Tool Library open, we will start to roll out classes and workshops open to members and area residents. 

Some of our workshops and classes are designed around home repair and maintenance, others were created in response to feedback from the community telling us what they're  most interested in learning.

Short Term (2024/2025)

  • Expand workshop and class offerings based on community feedback;
  • Engage more deeply with the community;
  • Create a mini-makerspace to support small businesses and encourage new business ventures;
  • Increase Revenue Streams through membership expansion, capital campaigns, grant opportunities, community fundraisers, and sponsorships;

Long Term (2025 & Beyond)

  • Continue enhancing services offered to the community;
  • Become a central fixture within the community;
  • Plan and develop the Compton Makers Hub with the support of the community;
  • Replicate our process and parts of our makerspace model to bring a makerspace to multiple underserved communities.
