Meet the Hub Heroes: Lynn Finley

Lynn Finley

Meet Lynn. Lynn Finley is a proud California native who was born in Oakland to a loving family. Her parents instilled the values of hard work, good education, respect for everyone, and the Ten Commandments, which served as guiding principles in their household. In 2010, Lynn and her husband relocated to Compton and settled into the same house where he grew up. They have a sixth-grade daughter who is excelling in school and exceeding their expectations at Compton Early College.

Having established community members involved in our network is crucial to the success of The Makers Hub. Making connections within the community allows us to be more effective in addressing the needs of the Greater Compton Area by ensuring that our programs and services are tailored to meet the specific needs of the people they serve. Prioritizing community involvement also fosters a sense of ownership and accountability among residents.

For Lynn, supporting her family and community are her top priorities. To dedicate more time to her daughter and community, she resigned from her position as an HR Director. Lynn firmly believes that investing in every child’s education is the best way for the Greater Compton Area to progress. After volunteering at her daughter’s school, Lynn became the PTA President and currently serves as co-chair for the District Black Parent Advisory Committee. The committee’s focus is on addressing the needs and disparities of black students and improving educational outcomes through targeting solutions and programs.

Lynn is also the newly appointed president of the Compton Union Council PTA. In this role, she is responsible for building connections between parents, teachers, and the community through ongoing collaboration and involvement.

Lynn’s approach to building community and connecting people within the Greater Compton Area drew her to the mission and goals of The Makers Hub. In 2021, Lynn and her husband founded the D3 Vision Block Club to bring neighbors and business owners together to improve their standard of living. She initially learned about our organization by meeting our founder, Adrianne, at a community clean up event. She was immediately intrigued by the concept of both a makerspace and tool library as well as the opportunities to continue bringing resources to the community.

I believe the concept of The Makers Hub will greatly benefit our community, specifically our youth… Our youth and young adults are in need of this type of training and facility where they can learn about and borrow tools.

Since then, Lynn has been involved in preparing The Makers Hub building and spreading the word throughout the community about our work. She has been able to connect us with local businesses, churches, and community members. We are grateful for Lynn’s commitment to our mission and to the Compton community. At The Makers Hub we strive to involve community members in our decision-making processes to continue building trust and strengthening relationships between our mission and the community. Compton residents like Lynn are essential to our work making lasting and sustainable impacts.

I would advise anyone with a genuine heart to serve others to get involved with The Makers Hub and programs like it.
